Abstract: The User Requirements Notation (URN), standardized by ITU-T in November 2008, aims to support the elicitation, modeling, analysis, specification, and validation of requirements, particularly for reactive and telecommunications systems. URN combines a goal view, expressed with the Goal-oriented Requirement Language, with a scenario view, expressed with the Use Case Maps notation. This unique combination proved to be useful in the description of business processes as well as of legislation and organization policies. In this presentation, we will explore the modelling and evolution of business processes and policies and how several compliance issues can be addressed. We will also discuss how recent extensions for key performance indicators and aspect-oriented modelling, together with tool support, can be exploited in a compliance context.

Biography: Daniel Amyot is Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa, which he joined in 2002 after working for Mitel Networks as a senior researcher. His research interests include goal- and scenario-based software engineering, requirements engineering, healthcare business process modeling, aspect-oriented modeling, and feature interactions in emerging applications. Daniel is Associate Rapporteur for requirements languages at the International Telecommunication Union, where he leads the evolution of the User Requirements Notation. He has a Ph.D. and a M.Sc. from the University of Ottawa (2001 and 1994), as well as a B.Sc. from Université Laval (1992).

The workshop focuses on relevant languages for requirements specification, languages for estimation and evaluation of non-functional properties, and integration of estimation, evaluation, and certification in software engineering process.

The workshop topics include, but are not restricted to:

Traceability of non-functional requirements in modeling languages
Estimation and evaluation of non-functional properties in the software engineering process using different techniques (analytical modeling, simulations and measurements)

Additional Information

Short papers will be expected to discuss controversial issues in the field or describe interesting or thought-provoking ideas that are not yet fully developed.

Full papers will be expected to describe new research results and have a higher degree of technical rigor than short papers.

All papers must not have been previously published or submitted elsewhere.

All submissions are subject to a rigorous review process that will be done by the members of the PC of the workshop. EasyChair will be used for the review process.

Publication:

Accepted papers will be published in the Workshop Proceedings. The proceedings will be provided in electronic format to each participant. For publication, papers must be presented at the workshop by at least one of the authors. The best papers will be considered for a special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (TII).

Submission format:

Scientific Paper: 6-8 pages (PDF format. The manuscript must follow IEEE two-column format with single-spaced, 10-point font in the text. The documents should be formatted for standard letter-size (8-1/2" by 11") paper or A4 format. The IEEE instructions for preparing the manuscript in Word or Latex templates can be download from Manuscript Templates for Conference Proceedings.
