ABOUT IEEE EMBEDDED SYSTEMS LETTERS (L-ES)

IEEE Embedded Systems Letters seeks to provide a forum for quick dissemination of research results in the domain of embedded systems and embedded software with a target turn-around time of three months.

Topics

Automotive systems are the epitome of distributed embedded systems that operate in sensor rich real-time environments. They offer an ideal field for stimulating research in methodologies and tools for electronics and software design as well as a valuable test case for embedded system developers.

In their quest for competitive advantage, automotive OEMs are manufacturing vehicles with increasingly complex features (e.g., for autonomous driving) deploying in-vehicle electronics and embedded software at exponential rates as they increasingly become the key product differentiators. As a result, automotive embedded systems are complex and their development cycle poses significant challenges to designers of components to system integrators. Further, increased safety, energy efficiency and pollution control requirements, coupled with cost and time-to-market pressures, pose additional burden to designers for achieving an efficient use of system resources (e.g., ECUs). To cope with these challenges, major advances are needed at every layer in the architecture stack of automotive systems, from innovative chip architectures and sensors, to new standards for communications, to novel methods, tools, and standards for the development of middle-ware and application-level software components.

The special issue on “Automotive Embedded Systems” intends to present novel research results in the broad area of automotive systems modeling, analysis, optimization, and development. We also expect that the presented theory and experiences be of interest to communities of developers and scientists other than automotive. We hope the results to be appealing to a broad audience.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Algorithms, models, design processes, and methodologies including performance evaluation, model-based design, analysis, optimization, synthesis, testing, and verification;
• Architecture standards and components, including middleware, communication networks, and operating systems.
• Case studies and implementations.

Submissions to this special issue must represent original material that has neither been submitted to nor published in any other journal. Please note that unlike some IEEE Transactions, a submission that is strictly an archival follow up to an earlier conference, symposium or workshop publication on a particular contribution is NOT acceptable for IEEE ESL. In general, if a contribution has already appeared in a printed form that can be accessed via proceedings or other online means is no longer considered novel for submission to IEEE ESL. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

 Submit papers at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/les-ieee; indicate "issue 1" in your submission.
 Submitted letters must be four pages or fewer, including all figures, tables, and references. Submissions exceeding this length will be returned without review.
 Papers should use 7.875in x 10.75in (20cm x 27.30cm) trim size and the IEEE transactions two-column format in 9-pt. font. In word counts, this corresponds to roughly 2200 words.

 Submissions to IEEE ESL must consist of original work that has not been previously published nor is currently under review elsewhere.
