On the application of intelligent bus arbitration techniques in order to support fast and efficient sensor network communication.
The CISTER/IPP group is elaborating the concept of dominance protocols towards wireless sensor networks. By employing a bitwise arbitration as it is the case in the wirdely-used CAN protocol, the transmission of redundand and irrelevant information via the network can be supressed. Thus, using this technique, the information from a large number of measurements can be transmitted within a few messages.
During his visit, Wilfried Elmenreich learned and contributed to this concept, which resulted in a joint paper on a measurement interpolation scheme. Future work will involve sensor fusion algorithms that are supported by a dominance protocol.
