The workshop discussed and elaborated basic concepts of distributed embedded systems in the context of new domains
like mobile computing, sensor networks and pervasive computing.

Meeting date: December 4, 2006 in Vienna, 1 1/2 days
Organiser(s): TU Vienna
There is no public page available for this meeting.

Agenda (A high-level view of the main points to be discussed)

Recent advantages in mobile and wireless technology have enabled a field of mobile embedded systems in new domains like mobile computing, sensor networks and pervasive computing but also in traditional domains like automation and process control. The objective of this workshop was to discuss and elaborate especially the concepts of
- time and state
- naming and addressing
- model-based approaches
- interfaces and components
- deployment, test and validation
- wireless protocols
- wireless network architectures

Outputs and Conclusions

Each topic was treated by an introductive presentation followed by extensive discussion. The particular results have been journalized in the minutes and will be made available together with the presented slides in a report. Conclusive remarks are that the wireless/mobile community requires an agreed high level view. Current research results are often presented as specific solutions to specific problem domains. The workshop has ameliorated this situation in mediating basic concepts of related fields like distributed systems and real-time systems to the mobile and wireless domains. Further steps are the elaboration of a concluding report that will be agreed with the participants. This report will be made available to the public in order to serve as a reference document regarding the discussed topics.
