2nd Int’l ARTIST Workshop on Control for Embedded Systems

May 31st - June 1st 2007       U. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (USA) organised and funded by ARTIST

Overview

The aim of the workshop is to gather key researchers within the control and real-time computing fields to chart the research agenda for the next decade in control for embedded systems.

Participation in the workshop is mainly by invitation. However, the workshop is also open for a limited number of attendees, primarily from industry.

The format will be quite flexible with only very few pre-scheduled presentations. The focus should be on discussions and debates. In addition to suggesting new research problems and identifying gaps in current theory and practice, the workshop will provide appropriate recommendations to both control and computer science researchers as well as to EU, NSF and national funding agencies regarding the viability, importance, potential, and expected impact of key identified prospective contributions and research directions in the field.

Each of the 4 half days will be devoted to a special subject:
DayTopic
Thursday May 31 (morning) Real-time and Control in Sensor/Actuator Networks
Thursday May 31 (afternoon) RT and Control issues in Cyber-Physical Systems
Friday June 1 (morning) Event-Based Control and Computing
Friday June 1 (afternoon) Control of Software Errors

An introductory key-note will be delivered for each topic. On Thursday May 31, the meeting will start with registration between 9.00 - 9.15 pm. Workshop registration is free of charge for invited participants and includes lunches and coffees. Other attendees are expected to pay for this. If our budget allows there will also be some kind of workshop dinner on Wednesday or Thursday evening.

The workshop is organized by the European Network of Excellence ARTIST2 on Design of Embedded Systems (see http://www.artist-embedded.org/artist/). This workshop is a follow-up to the workshop held in Lund in June 2005 (see here and the final report found there).

The organizers of this workshop are Karl-Erik Årzén, Lund University, Tarek Abdelzaher, UIUC, and Dan Henriksson, Lund/UIUC.
