The Software Process for Safety Laboratory of the CEA-LIST List (450 researchers in the field of software-intensive systems) offers Post-Doc or Research Engineer positions in the area of Model-Driven Engineering and distributed, real-time and embedded systems. They concern subjects:
- Position: Deployment & configuration of component based middleware (avionics context)
- Position: MDE for complex systems: Modeling QoS requirement and management in complex systems or system of systems
The Software Process for Safety Laboratory of the CEA-LIST offers a creative international environment and a possibility to conduct highly competitive research on a global scale and involvement in teaching. Within the project, there are plenty of opportunities to cooperate with national and international partners. There is the possibility to gain valuable experience in the field of Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) and real-time embedded systems design. The lab is responsible, within CEA-LIST, for research activities related to methods and tools for the development of real-time embedded systems. In this scope, one of the prevailing themes of the laboratory is the application of model-driven approaches to real-time embedded systems development. The lab has a recognized expertise in this field, both on the academic and industrial side. It participates in numerous European and national research projects (ARTIST2, ATESST, SPICES, MODELPLEX…) and has steady and close relations with some major actors of the domain. It is strongly involved in international standardisation bodies like the Object Management Group, where it is caring the ongoing response for the future OMG standard dedicated to real-time and embedded systems modelling and analysis (www.promarte.org).

Position: Deployment & configuration of component based middleware (avionics context)

In the context of a joint project with (among other partners) Airbus, we seek to develop a safety and time critical middleware for future integrated modular avionics platforms (IMA), in particular with respect to deployment and configuration and quality of service. The work is based on existing component based middleware approaches, such as the Corba Component Model or Fractal/Think.

The position is funded for a period of 1 year with the option to extend the period by a half year.

The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent with top performance in a field that is closely related to computer science. He should have a good background in middleware technology and/or the embedded (ideally avionics) domain. English is mandatory, French is a plus, but is not required.

Applications shall be sent by e-mail or postal mail to

Position: on MDE for complex systems: Modeling QoS requirement and management in complex systems or system of systems

The model-driven engineering (MDE) research theme is continuously and rapidly evolving. A particular focus has been recently set on the management of complexity through modelling. Complexity is indeed one of the major concerns that have arisen in the past years in the scope of software-intensive systems development, and new design approaches like MDE could help in this respect. Models can indeed provide the necessary abstractions that enable human comprehension, communication, simulation and analysis, and synthesis of implementation artefacts which is key for such systems. However, applicability of MDE to complex systems engineering still remains a challenge.

In this scope, the lab opens a position for a researcher who will be in charge of conducting research activities in complex systems modelling. These activities will be performed in the frame of both internal projects and external collaborations (European research projects).

The position is funded for a period of 2 to 3 years. It offers full time employment with full social benefits. Salaries are calculated individually, mainly based on the applicant’s experience.

The candidate must hold at least a M.S. or equivalent with top performance in a field that is closely related to computer science. He should have a good background in MDE, and shall be familiar with related concepts (e.g. meta-modelling). English is mandatory, but French is not required.

They shall be sent by e-mail or postal mail to:
